This past season SPINEXPO had the pleasure of working with Shanghai Fashion, a factory that is specialized in the development and production of knitwear for American and European luxury houses with a particular focus and attention to hybrid mixes (knitwear mixed with wovens, jersey, leather, fur etc…). Their most recent accolade comes from creating garments for M.PATMOS, winner of the 2015 International Woolmark Prize for womenswear.

While visiting their showroom in Shanghai we were allowed to take photos of past work that shows the high attention to detail and top-level quality that is inherent in their production. Although we are not able to publish their most recent work for their main clients as it was just hitting the runways, we were able to take a closer look at some earlier samples, which exemplify their talent for couture-level craftsmanship in the realm of knitwear.

Over-sized rectangular sequins are embedded within the knit structure of the garment / Leather strips are woven through free-floating ribs

Silk binding is flawlessly applied to a placket while free-floating grosgrain ribbon is tacked in place / Woven silk is inserted delicately in a fine gauge knit along the pointelle lines leading to the front neck drop

Woven lace is overlaid with a cover-stitch binding above the rib / Delicate lace is pieced invisibly into featherweight knit

Quilted down is finished with knitted trims and placket

A knitted dress is full of geometric texture via placed pointelle and tuck stitches that create volume and dimension
